An Inherited Tax Crisis Threatening Our School
Between 2017/18 and 2023/24, a tax liability built up under the previous management's financial practices, now threatening the school's continued operation โ before today's governance reforms took hold. We have not stayed silent โ we have appealed with full, documented evidence and taken part in this fight to the courts, already reducing the liability considerably through that effort. What remains are expenses the tax authority deemed ineligible, now compounded by added penalties and interest. A final decision is expected within weeks. We continue to follow up closely, doing everything we can to ease this burden.
We're sharing this openly because we believe you deserve the full picture. This is a debt inherited by our whole community โ and it will take our whole community to close it.
Employee salaries paid by the school for mosque operations were deemed "non-deductible" because the mosque is considered separate from school operations.
Student scholarship expenses were rejected under accrual accounting rules, despite being real, documented payments that changed lives.
Construction and compound improvements โ including the new field โ were disallowed as capital investment because the property is registered as a mosque compound.
